David Hodge CBE, chairman of Sid Valley Memory Cafe, met members of Sidmouth Golf Club on St Patrick’s Day – March 17th – to thank them and their club captain, Chris Grubb, for their sponsorship of Sid Valley Memory Café during 2024/2025 golf year.
He told the club that their support over many years had been a significant factor in the success of SVMC’s work with local families living with dementia. David explained that each week SVMC organised at least three different social events to bring together dementia sufferers and their family members or carers.
David said: “We always strive to provide fun, laughter and music to help bring back fond memories and I would like to praise the family members who act as carers for loved ones with dementia. It is a challenging role”. Respite care provides a unique opportunity for carers to have some time to visit family and friends or just chill out for a while, away from the daily demands of giving constant care to their loved one”, he said, and added:
“SVMC also recognises that there will be an increase in the numbers of people who will suffer from dementia in the future and have helped to set up the Dementia Friendly Sidmouth project with the objective to increase awareness in our community. We shall be talking to businesses, clubs and other organisations about supporting families living with dementia.
“We are really grateful to the members of Sidmouth Golf Club for their kind sponsorship and support for our work.”
